Application of NMP
N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) is a high-purity, colorless, and slightly viscous liquid solvent with excellent solvency power and high chemical stability. In the chemical and pharmaceutical industries,it is widely used as a solvent, reaction medium, and cleaning agent due to its ability to dissolve a wide range of organic and inorganic compounds.
In the chemical industry, NMP is commonly used as a solvent for polymeric materials, such as polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), polyacrylonitrile (PAN), and polyimide (PI), due to its ability to dissolve these materials at high concentrations. It is also used as a reaction medium for chemical processes, such as the production of lithium-ion battery electrodes, and as a cleaning agent for equipment and machinery.
In the pharmaceutical industry, NMP is commonly used as a solvent for drug formulation and synthesis, due to its high solvency power and ability to dissolve a wide range of drug compounds. It is also used as a carrier solvent in transdermal drug delivery systems and as a cleaning agent for equipment and facilities.
Key ingredients of NMP
The key materials for NMP production are BDO (Butane-1,4-diol) and methylamine. BDO is the largest cost component and accounts for almost 50% of the total. Through deoxidation process, BDO is converted to gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), then GBL is converted to N-alkyl-gamma-butyrolactone and reacted with methylamine to form NMP.
